Vilhelmsro School in Fredensborg

Vilhelmsro School in the municipality of Fredensborg offers free access to the entire school area. The outside areas have been organised for residents in nearby neighbourhoods to be able to go for a run on the path twisting through the school area.

The various outdoor spaces can be used for both hanging out and activities for both students as well as anybody else who would like to make use of the area.

The Danish Foundation for Culture and Sports Facilities has not supported the building of the all new school but has been part of developing and supporting the outdoor areas as an example of how a school can be integrated with the local community and become an active and recreational assembly point.

The school is created as a village where the outdoor areas take over where the school ends. Nature is allowed to move in and out between the buildings. This creates a number of various natural and more urban outdoor spaces that are tied together by a 1,000 meter long running track.
