An attractive and appealing entrance area has been added to Virring School to be used by children and adults alike. The project has been developed in connection with the program "Skole+" ("School+") that was a co-operation between the Danish Foundation for Culture and Sports Facilities, Realdania and Sports Confederation of Denmark (DIF).

The Virring School district covers a substantial area in the municipality of Skanderborg and many of the students of the school thus arrive by bus. Previously, this has led to long and boring waiting times for the students by the school entrance.

But a conversion of the Virring School entrance has created an active waiting area for students and this has also become a local meeting place for both parents and other locals. The entrance area activates the students both during breaks, classes and waiting periods. Slanted boards on the ceiling ensure good acoustics so the children can run about the running track or engross themselves in things in the quite zone without disturbing each other. Big window panes ensure maximum inflow of light.

They broke through the ceiling and found some extra square meters with an extra floor. Among other things, the upper floor is used for a gym for the benefit of the older students, parents and other locals.

The entrance area is also used as an assembly point, e.g. for end of term activities of students while the locals can benefit from this for jumble sales and other social events.
