In Ikast, a new multihouse and activity park will be established for an as of yet unseen broad user group. Here there will be room for athletes, skaters, musicians and students from an international school in a social-psychiatric employment project.

No less than 35 user groups have been involved in the development of the multihouse “the Heart” and the activity park “the Activity loop” in Ikast. The two projects will be erected by the International School Ikast-Brande that together with the municipality of Ikast-Brande will handle the two parts of the project.

The project is based on the needs of the municipality of Ikast-Brande to find new surroundings for the socio-economic company the plant nursery Garland and the school’s need for a new multihouse for sports and culture. The municipality decided to let the plant nursery take over a garden centre near the international school. Then, it was an obvious solution for the municipality and the international school to work on a project for recreational activities in the area. This is why all kinds of possible users were invited to participate in a development process for a new multi-house and a new activity park which has lead to such a diverse future user group as we have never seen.

Among the users, among others, will be the pupils of the international school, employees of the plant nursery Gartneriet Garland, the sports club Ikast Atletik og Motion, a dog club, skaters, musicians, night school and many more. In addition to this, the projects will be open to spontaneous use from anybody who comes by.

Stage, flexible teaching rooms and street sport hall
The multihouse “the Heart” will cover a total of 3,660 m² and will be built on a big area close to the international school and close to a number of other youth education centres.

The multihouse will be laid out as a central square with a stage for performances. The square will distribute the users to the various rooms of the multihouse. One wing will house teaching rooms for the school that in the afternoon and evening can be changed into multirooms and art workshops for clubs and night school. The street sport hall will be especially interesting for young people and younger athletes. The street sport hall will house a concrete or asphalt floor to maintain the rough outdoor feeling even though we are taking the street sport activities indoors. Finally, there will be a café with a kitchen and two shops that will be run on socio-economic terms.

On the first floor of the multihouse, there will be various smaller and larger rooms for soft movement activities such as dance and yoga, cultural events and performance art as well as youth counselling for at the counselling services for young people of the municipality.

The “Heart” is very an open and transparent build that will make people sit up and take notice when using the many small informal lounge areas and alcoves that supports the possibilities of the multihouse to be a social place to hang out which is about more than active leisure time.

Skatebowl, outdoor fitness and hill run

With a number of different paths, the activity park “the Activity loop” connects the “Heart” with the international school, the plant nursery Gartneriet Garland and youth education centres. The Activity loop will have an urban area and a more relaxed and natural area. In the urban area, there will be a covered skatebowl, a playground with concrete surfaces and rubber asphalt hills, an outdoor fitness area, a multicourt for ballplay and a bike track for mountain bikes. There will also be a hill with stairs for running. In the more rural and natural zone, there will be lounge areas with barbecue and bonfire place and shelters for outdoor living.
