When the chapel and crematorium closed in 2003 and the successful dance project Dance in Nordvest needed new premises, the municipality of Copenhagen converted the old building from 1908 to a world-class dance house.
The Danish Foundation for Culture and Sports Facilities became involved in the development of the project which is one of the few examples of disused church buildings in Denmark that have been converted for new purposes.
Today, the Dance chapel is an eminent example of how premises targeting dancing and softer forms of movement can be designed. With three rehearsal rooms and two performance rooms and some of the most impressive changing rooms that have ever been seen in a Danish sports and culture facility, the Dance chapel offers many strikingly beautiful architectural solutions.
