The Vibeeng school activity area is a ground-breaking attempt to combine indoor schooling with an outdoor learning environment that equally can be used by athletics clubs and self-organised active individuals for athletics, playtime and social interaction.
The school is situated in the southern end of the area. It is a build with seven wings that create a number of smaller transition zones between the school and the outdoor space. The transition zones reflect the nearest special subject rooms so that outside the domestic science room a vegetable patch has been established and outside the woodwork room you will find a wood chopping yard.
An urban local activity park has been created in connection with the sports centre with three smaller playing fields of various sizes and surfaces. The local activity park is equipped with lights so that the playing fields can be used all day all year. The local activity park also offers a 60 meter running track, sand pit and swings for both children and adults as well as an obstacle course landscape for the younger children.
At another location in the area there is a pleasure garden with apple trees and exotic woods, petanque lanes and different places to hang out. In the large meadow area you will find a circular common of 65 meters in diameter. The grass field of the common can be used for a smaller football pitch and for crolf – a new sport combining croquet and golf.
By the embankment towards a nearby ring road, a BMX track has been set up while the actual slope of the embankment is fitted with balance beams, motor function workout paths and climbing nets.
Finally, three special activity areas have been created: “The Workshop”, a covered outdoor room especially suited for woodwork and scout activities; “The Jetty” located at the edge of a rainwater pool also has a covered lounge area and a pontoon bridge in the pool; and “The Hideaway” is a dramatic rebirth of the historic outdoor gymnastics ground as it looked 200 years ago. The gymnastics ground can be used for both adult weight training and for school PE classes.
